Into the chromosome
Inspired by biology. Designed with love: Cecchi de Rossi’s new line is a tribute to Louise Bourgeois.
Conceiving bags as living multicellular organisms formed and modelled by cells containing other objects' chromosomes. The ‘Cellula’ are 5x8 rectangles cut from vegetable-tanned leathers and carry the chromosome of other bags. They are assembled in a crossed patchwork in two directions to form a cloth that once modelled on a shape takes life.
The three new models represent a contemporary development of the classic Cecchi de Rossi Armor line. The concept is a tribute to French artist Louise Bourgeois who, with her romantic and sensual rawness, expressed her being without being influenced by the fashion of that time.
Beautiful, discrete, elegant and durable, Cellula is the combination of attention to detail and functionality. A living organism that is pure on the outside but complex.
CELLULA 84 - is a carrier composed of 84 cells
CELLULA 96 - a worker created with 96 leather patches
CELLULA 198 - created as a weekender from 198 cells
Transitioning cells into a piece of accessory: the idea was to transform the essence of a living system – genetics and mutations - into a bag as a sign of human's adaptation abilities. In this way, Cecchi de Rossi bags are not only faithful reproductions of the outside world but adapt themselves to the changes and needs of their wearers, turning into pieces to match any need with unique and particular details.
